Tatler portrait by Leon Noel showing HRH Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll at the age of seventeen wearing a beautiful off the shoulder dress. This image was one of the very few of the Duchess as she disliked having her photograph taken. Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, VA, CI, GCVO, GBE, RRC, GCStJ (Louise Caroline Alberta; 18 March 1848 3 December 1939), was the sixth child and fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Her early life was spent moving among the various royal residences in the company of her family. When her father, the Prince Consort, died on 14 December 1861, the court went into a period of intense mourning, to which Louise was unsympathetic. Louise was an able sculptor and artist, and several of her sculptures remain today. She was also a supporter of the feminist movement, corresponded with Josephine Butler, and visited Elizabeth Garrett. She held that the subject of Domestic Economy lies at the root of the highest life of every true woman. Date: 13th October 1909. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
