Framed Print of Queen Charlottes Ball, 1934
The ceremony of cutting the cake performed by HRH Princess Arthur of Connaught (formerly Princess Alexandra of Fife), at Queen Charlottes Ball. As the Princess advanced, 150 debutantes, the maids-in-waiting (last years debutantes) and the dames d honneur all curtseyed in absolute unity. Queen Charlottes Ball was the highlight of the debutantes season. Named in honour of George IIIs Queen and following the traditions of her birthday celebrations, all the girls who attended dressed in white. It was revived by Lady Howard de Walden in 1925 and raised money for the maternity hospital named after Queen Charlotte. The huge cake carried a large number of candles representing the number of years since the Queens birth. Date: 1934.
